Fortunately all refrigerators work the same way and have very few components. Folks are generally frightened by them because most parts are invisible. Back yard mechanics can't see belts moving and back off. In the majority of cases, all cooling (the evaporator) occurs in the freezer section and cold air is vented to and from the fresh food section as shown in the most common pattern that follows:
In recent years, some designs such as LG, Samsung and GE have added a second evaporator to the fresh food section. Again this doesn't change diagnosis. Different air patterns don't change the logic. Air must freely move over an evaporator and chill the food.
